Awakenings

Awakening

Awakening is Gypsy Caravan's darkest work. To be honest, the first time I heard it, I didn't care much for it. I listened to it for a few days, and after getting used to their new sound, it quickly became one of my favorite CDs. It is one of the darkest belly dance CDs I have ever heard, but once you get used to it, you'll be addicted to it. Tribe Zayna uses this CD in class and for performance.

Sha'waza

The word Sha'waza means bewitchment and describes this beautiful and haunting music. Jeremiah Soto of Solace challenges the listener by weaving in and out of melodic modes utilizing a combination of ethnic instruments such as Oud, Saz, Bendir, Riqq, Darbukka and Zills to create a modern blend of traditional sound, while keeping true to the ethnicity of the rhythms that made his debut Rhythm of the Dance so popular. Sha'waza promises to challenge all levels of dancers from beginning to advanced and provides a level of drama and intrigue to complement the art of the dance.

We've been using track 3 from this CD quite a bit lately and all of our students have been asking about it! The first song is a Jay-Z remix that's also very fun. Most of the CD is very dancable.

Arabesque Zoudge 2

This is the infamous CD that has the "camel" song on it that we use quite a bit in class. The CD overall is a great CD made up of various artists.

This CD has a bit of a spanish flair to it. It's got some great traditional pieces, as well as some more modern pieces. We use this a lot in class for our "across the floor" work.

Arabic Groove - Various Artists

This was my first introduction to funky arabic music, back in my early days of belly dance at Caravan Studios. I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever heard! It's still a regular in my car and in class.

Desert Knights

Desert Knights - Desert Nights

We've been using this quite a bit in class lately for some slower movements. The entire CD is great. There's lots of variation. For those of you who like something a little more traditional, this is right up your alley.

Hossam Ramzy - Baladi Plus

This was the first belly dance CD that I purchased, and I still love it. It has lots of nice moderate beledis on it, as well as some slow pieces to do taqusims to.
